Anyone aged 16-18? who has an interest in the Army.
When and how long will I attend? BACK
The course lasts for 14 weeks. You attend Monday , Tuesday, Thursday (Home project Friday ) from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. (This includes one day each week spent with the Army.)
What do I need to join the course? BACK
Enthusiasm and determination! and eligible to join H.M.S We will teach the rest.
Most of the kit is provided for you, i.e. tracksuit, t-shirts, shorts, rucksack, waterproof.
You will need trainers good enough to run in.
What about travel to and from the APC? BACK
Help may be available towards travel expenses (train or bus).
Do I need to have any qualifications? BACK
No. We will teach and prepare you for all the skills needed for the Army (e.g. First Aid, Health and Safety, Key Skills, Asdan FE Award, Map-reading , Fitness, Swimming, etc.)..
If I decide it's not for me, do I have to stay? BACK
We hope you will, but no, you don't have to stay or join the Army. The choice is yours and we will give you all the support you need to proceed to your chosen career, whatever you decide.
No, far from it! Most of the course is run by means of practical exercises that give you the experience of a lifetime. You build up a portfolio documenting your experiences and showing off your new skills, to prove you can really do what you say you can. You will benefit from highly qualified ex-army personnel who have a lot of experience to share, not to mention the resident Army Sergeant who is also on hand to offer help and advice.
How do I know when I will be able to join the Army? BACK
Throughout the course we will be measuring your fitness and other skills with programmes to help you achieve your targets and meet Army requirements. We then arrange for you to attend the Army Recruit Selection centre at Edinburgh for an assessment lasting two day's. On successful completion you will be given a place in the Army regiment of your choice.
What if I have been convicted of a criminal offence? BACK
All cases are treated individually and in confidence. Where possible, we will try and offer you a place.
What if I have taken drugs in the past? BACK
Again, all cases are treated individually and in confidence. Just apply to discuss your particular circumstances further.
Do I have to live in a particular area? BACK
No, you can come on the course from anywhere in Lancashire or Greater Manchester.
Are there any other benefits? BACK
Yes. In addition to all the preparation, experience and qualifications, you could earn ₤30 a week via EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) and collect bonuses up to £125 for achievement whilst on the course. Your achievements will be recognised at Presentation Night at the end of the course where you will stand proud with the others as the Army band marches in on your behalf, with mum and dad standing in the wings.
